Description

A wonderful safari tour visiting the iconic Amboseli, the wilderness of Tsavo,two of the Great Rift Valley lakes, the classic Masai Mara and the scenic Naboisho conservancy. There will be plenty of opportunities to track down all the Big Five, watch hippos in their natural environment, encounter herds of elephants, spot hundreds of species of bird and see big cats patrol the savannah plains!

WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU AND USEFUL INFORMATION

  • Loose cool cotton clothing
  • Some warmer clothing as it can become quite cool in the highlands at certain times of the year particularly at night
  • Sensible shoes;sandals, flip flops, trainers
  • Swimming costume - many of the lodges&camps have pools
  • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
  • Insect repellant (deet) & bite cream (in areas where mosquitos are found accommodation will be provided with mosquito nets)

ITINERARY.

Day 1 & 2. Amboseli – Ol TukaiSandwich Bird Tours Safari
Depart Nairobi by road for Amboseli National Park (5 hours), a fantastic park, with amazing views of the imposing Mount Kilimanjaro, and with the possibility of seeing big cats and herds of elephants - it’s a park not to be missed!
You’ll arrive in time for lunch at the Ol Tukai Lodge, wonderfully located inside the park and is one of the best places to watch elephants with the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, the lodge also holds birding talks, lectures by researchers from the Elephant Research Centre and cultural talks by a Masai culturist.
After lunch you’ll head out on a late afternoon game drive and spend the next day exploring the park on early morning and late afternoon game drives, with all meals at the lodge.

Day 3 & 4. Tsavo West – Serena KilaguniSandwich Bird Tours Safari
Wake up early to see the sunrise over the imposing Kilimanjaro, then after breakfast continue your safari onto Tsavo West, via the Shetani lava flows, which is about a two-hour drive mostly through wilderness.
You’ll be staying at the stunning Serena Kilaguni Lodge situated inside the park where you’ll arrive in time for lunch.
The lodge, overlooks rolling hills and a waterhole, there is a pool to cool off, spa and small souvenir shop and each room has a balcony either over-looking the watering hole or the Chyulu Hills.
After lunch you'll be taken on a late afternoon game drive and a visit to the Mzima Springs whereyou may see hippos and Nile crocodiles and many different species of bird. You’ll then return to Kilaguni for dinner and spend your evening relaxing and watching the wildlife arrive at the watering hole overlooked by the lodge’s restaurant, lounge and bar.
You will spend the next day on early morning and late afternoon game drives with all meals at the lodge.

Day 5. Tsavo to Nairobi – Wildebeest Eco CampSandwich Bird Tours Safari
After breakfast and a short game drive through Tsavo park, you’ll head back to Nairobi with a picnic lunch and arrive in time for dinner at the Wildebeest Eco Camp.
The camp is located on the outskirts of Nairobi in Karen andhas aselection of cottages and luxury tents, a pool, restaurant, games room and a very good souvenir shop and it’s all set in a very attractive site with lots of trees and bird-life.

Day 6&7.Lake Nakuru - Sopa LodgeSandwich Bird Tours Safari
You will depart Nairobi early morning for thepremium Lake Nakuru (2.5 hours) where you could see over 400 different species of birds, large numbers of white rhinos, the rare Rothschild giraffe and other plains mammals such as lion, zebra and buffalo.
On entering the park, you will take a game drive on route to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge that has great views over the lake and park; all the rooms are very spacious and are located at the top of a ridge, all with views over the lake.
After lunch you'll head out into the park for a game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner.
The second day will be spent on early morning and late afternoon game drives exploring the park and lake-shore, with all meals at the lodge.

Day 8.Lake Naivasha - Sopa ResortSandwich Bird Tours Safari
After breakfast, your guide will take you down the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha and the Sopa Resort (1.5 hours), where you’ll arrive mid-morning.
Sopa is positioned by the lake and has beautiful grounds with huge cactus and many acacia trees and there is often wildlife wandering around such as bushbuck, zebra and giraffe and in the evening you may also see hippos grazing on the lawns.
The main building has an interior garden, fireplaces and low comfy leather sofas.
The rooms themselves are spacious, Swahili style chalets either with a balcony or a glass fronted lounge area for relaxing and wildlife viewing.
After lunch you’ll take a boat safari across the lake where you may see hippos and many species of birds including fish eagles, pelicans and sometimes flamingoes, you will also stop along the way at Crescent Island for a guided bush walk.
After your boat safari you’ll retire to the lodge for the evening where you can take a swim, have dinner and watch the hippos come up from the Lake to graze in Sopa’s grounds.

Day 9&10. Masai Mara - Basecamp ExplorerSandwich Bird Tours Safari
You’ll depart Naivasha early morning and head to the open grassland of the Masai Mara (4.5 hours), rich in biodiversity and home to a large variety of bird species and wildlife and offers great game viewing and bird watching opportunities.
You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Basecamp Explorer, a small-tented camp with just 12 tents located on the banks of the Talek river..
Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a solar heated hot water shower and a private terrace area overlooking the river.
The camp has an eco-friendly policy, all waste is 100% recycled and the camp is fully powered by a solar bank.
The camp also supports local communities and there is a large art centre on campus where many articles are made for sale locally as well as for exporting abroad
After lunch you’ll head out for a game drive in the reserve where you will have the opportunity to see big cats and many other species of bird and mammal.
The following day will be spent exploring the reserve on early morning and late afternoon game drives with all meals in camp.

Day 11&12. Masai Mara, Naboisho conservancy - Eagle ViewSandwich Bird Tours Safari
Next morning after an early game drive and breakfast you’ll head to Basecamp’s Eagle View in the Naboisho conservancy, which overlooks a natural waterhole and is frequented by many speciesof wild animals such as elephants, hippos and giraffes.
The camp itself consists of nine double viewpoint luxury tents, each offeringa king size double or two large twin beds, a private bathroom area featuring bio-flush toilets and two showers, one inside and one open-air ‘safari shower’.
All rooms have a private elevated viewing deck offering exceptional views of Naboisho Conservancy.
You’ll have lunch and then head out for an afternoon game drive before heading back to camp for dinner.
The next day will be spent on an early morning bush walkand a late afternoon/evening game drive, with all meals in camp.

Day 13 - Transfer to Nairobi
After an early morning game drive you’ll head back to camp for breakfast before heading back to Nairobi with a picnic lunch (5.5 hours).
Alternatively stay for lunch at the lodge and fly back to Nairobi in the afternoon (optional extra at $180 per person).
